Disaster Recovery for the SMB

Disaster Recovery planning can be an enormous, but necessary undertaking for a company. A survey released this month reported that 59% of SMBs have no disaster recover plan. While is certainly is not a fun exercise (rates right up there with a root canal) it is necessary. A good place to start is your insurance broker. They can help you identify the things that need to be covered. There are also many good resources on the Internet. Here are a few to get you started.

Test Exchange Connectivity

Shawn McGrath of Microsoft presented at our Puget Sound SBS User Group meeting last week.  His team developed the very useful Exchange Tool called Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer, which has been around for about two years.  Dave Shackelford first recommended the tool to me more than a year ago.  The funny part about the presentation is the fact that the Microsoft Exchange team that brought the tool to life is literally just 2 people: Shawn McGrath and Brad Hughes.  Shawn also worked to bring the Microsoft FixNow tool.
